Managing Deviations and Waivers

A deviation is a written authorization, granted before the manufacture of a physical item, to deviate from a particular performance or design requirement of a specification, drawing or other document for a specific number of units or a specified period of time.

A deviation event is further characterized by the following:

  • It is directly associated with a serialized item
  • It has a specified effectivity.

A deviation does not warrant change to a baseline.

A deviation record will be maintained by AssetWise as part of the item's build history.

A waiver is a written authorization to accept an item which, during manufacturing or subsequent inspection, is found to deviate from specified requirements, but which is nevertheless considered suitable for use as is or to be repaired using an approved method.

All data fields located on the Deviation/Waiver form are mandatory. All field detail must be filled in for the deviation/waiver to be established in the system.
